TOTALLY COOL - I just poked around paypal and I "think" I found it. Just for others to note

Login to Paypal
Merchant Services Tab
Shipping and Tax Section
Shipping Preference link
Edit Printer Settings link under the USPS Preference
On that page there is a 'check box' - Deselect 'print receipt'

From all the poking around I'm "guessing" this is that feature I don't want. When/if I get my next order of 3+ soaps where I will then use the flat rate shipping - I'll double check, run the order and see what happens. Who would have guess :?

I just love this forum and how *helpful* everyone is. All these great little tips ensure that as we work to become profitable (or break even if that is your first hurdle) we just keep getting better at what we do - be it the business side or the crafty/creative side.

Thanks
Hilary

Good news. I was able to successfully print one side of the label. At least now I don't feel like I'm going to waste half.

One thing to note - even though I saved (or thought I saved) my setting to not printe the receipt - I got lucky and did get an order for 3 soaps so - tested again.

When the page come up to confirm where you were printing (i.e. inkjet) there was a link for editing options. I clicked on that (took me to where I had outlined in my previous post) and the print receipt was checked so I'm not 100% sure it saves it everytime but at that point I had the option to deselect and sure enough it came out the way I expected.

I guess we'll see if I have to do this everytime, but at least I got it working thanks to you magic_hands

Off to the post office... :D

Yay, I'm glad that worked! I'm a little  to say that I printed quite a lot of receipts before I found that by accident.....

I've gotten it to stay with no receipt in my regular paypal section, but if I use the "multiple shipments" tool I have to re-adjust every time. I'm not sure why that is, but something to be on the lookout for. :)

So basically for those of you who don't use Etsy, do you do your own website? Or when you say they payed with paypal do you mean because you are selling on Ebay? My husband and I hope to get a website set up after the first of the year, once I get my business registered for Tax purposes etc. So I guess what I am wondering as far as shipping goes is how DO you ship your soaps and items? What about things like Salt scrub? Lately I have been hand delivering all my items, so the "breakable-ness" of possibility of spilling/leaking doesn't matter, and while so far my salt scrub does come in a jar with lid, it is glass. I am worried about things like what if I ship it and it leaks all over everything, or breaks, or what if the soap gets all smoshed? I do candles too, and they are in these large glass jars-will people want to pay the shipping costs? Seems like that would be heavy/expensive to ship, no?

For labels, I too use plain paper so as not to add to my shipping costs. I rub a little, cheap glue stick on the back, then tape it, avoiding the bar code. I was told by the PO not to tape over that. I use the USPS website for shipping and labels.

The post office actually has some free boxes, which are great. I also ordered some small ones from Uline, THEN found out about the free ones. I keep all the packing stuff that comes with things I order, and reuse them... even if it's crumpled newspaper. I'm pretty "cheap" but don't like to add a lot of cost that would have to be passed to the customer.

As for Etsy, I have an account there, but can't get into it!! I also didn't know that they will automatically delete items that have been there for awhile. I'd just rather work my website, which works fine for me. I also have a facebook "group" but don't really know how much that helps. I did get a few sales that were a direct result... but not getting rich off it.

All my shipping charges, including PP, are calculated after they have selected their items. I then either charge their credit card, or send a PP request for money to cover the postage. I tried calculating everything so I could include the shipping and gave up. The shopping cart does charge a fee for that, then there is a CC fee, so this works better for me. No complaints yet.
