Teach Soap

Hi, everyone! I've been in and out of town for the past few weeks, and now I'm finally getting settled back in again.

Okay, so I know some of you have blogs. I was toying with the idea of maybe starting one myself and I have questions.

Here's a hypothetical: Suppose I buy something amazing at a store or on Etsy or at a craft fair or farmer's market and I want to rave about it. Can I take a picture of the product I bought, write a nice blurb, and add a link to the company's/seller's website, if they have one? (I assume you can't rip photos off of someone else's website, so I'd have to take my own picture? If I took a photo, I'd post my best effort to properly represent the person or product.)

I see people doing stuff like this on their blogs and always wonder if they have to get permission, or if you can just do it? Of course, I would want to only rave about how awesome something is, not to post something negative. Only happy thoughts!

I would ask for permission. Actually, it might not be a bad idea if you let them know that you like their product and would like to blog about it. Anytime someone blogged about my products they send me an email first.

That's what we do - we buy the product, photograph it and blog about it. If I don't like the product, I don't blog about it but that's a personal preference. Some people do post negative reviews of products but that's never been my style. I love to give honest feedback and stay positive.

Usually when we get ready to blog about someone, we'll drop them a line so they can add to the story if they choose and always email them a copy of the blog when it comes out.
