Teach Soap

Hello all. Thanks again for those of you who have become experienced with Etsy/Paypal and shipping and are gracious to accelerate those of us just trying to work though the excercise.

I did a test with a friend who bought a soap I made for him (one to see that the california tax was being included now, and the use of the paypal shipping label) and based on some previous posts - I wanted to try the use of printing the label from paypal (via usps) - As I followed along the process (choosing 1st class mail) on the paypal site - the system kept insisting that I pay .19 cents for a delivery confirmation. It would not give me the option to turn it off. At this point since it was my friend (and he was doing this to help me figure things out) I just decided to forgo the nice 'professional label' and the delivery confirmation for this instance and I walked up to the post and paid the shipping out of pocket and left the shipping he paid for in my paypal account. What I like about using the paypal/shipping option in general is that I can use the proceeds directly from paypal which seems like a nice easy way from an accounting standpoint.

In your shipping policies (etsy or not) - do you tell everyone you provide delivery confirmation? And you've figured out your shipping price for one soap to incorporate that extra fee? or is there some secret way to get around that fee?

I pay the fee - because if there's ever a paypal dispute, it will really help you to be able to show confirmation of delivery. It also allows you to track your packages, which is VERY useful.

That, and paypal sends out an e-mail to the customer telling them that the package shipped and giving them the tracking info. All in all, it's worth nineteen cents.

I hope I didn't sound cheap or anything - I'm just breaking down this process bit by bit so I understand what is really happening, where the money goes, what the customer experience is/isn't, what my experience is and how to ensure I do it right out of the gate. I dug a bit deeper and followed through on how it is handled with the flat rate shipping and apparently that experience is such that the delivery confirmation is free. So after seeing how the paths work - it totally makes sense to use the paypal process. Hopefully overtime too - more people will like my soaps buy more and get more for less shipping costs anyway!!
