(*also posted in Melt and Pour just to cover both forum topics)

Thanks all who responded to my initial question. I'm *so* thankful for this community to offer up thier advice. It's been wonderful. Now that it's appearing I am going with option 2 from my first question on price/taxes - I have a followin question ...

I am not going to be setup for credit (I'm okay about that for this fair) - but will take cash.

Should I consider also taking checks? And if so if I put that in
my signage (*Cash and Checks accepted *) - should I be asking for an id if someone does prepare to write a check? Or just be a trusting vendor?

Thanks
Hilary

At first I always said tax was included in the price. I just got a portable cash register so now I am going to charge it and will give all a recipt. I have a show this weekend and will let you know how it goes.

I have done about 10 shows so far and have yet to take a bad check. I ask for the phone number and let it go at that. Knock on wood.

If you are even thinking about taking credit cards a good place to start is www.propay.com If you do not do a high volume of cards they are about the cheapest. I accept them and would never go back to not taking them again. I bought a manual imprinter with slips on ebay for about $20.

Good luck and hope all goes well for you!

Bruce

Thanks Bigmoose for tax info and the feedback on getting the phone number or making sure that there is a valid phone number on the check. I do have a DBA and business bank account (A Slice of Delight - :D ) so I can have the check written to the business. This is my first show (did my kids fair which gave me the confidence to 'branch out'). I've not a sense of the demand one way or another yet for this event since this is my first show. It's all a learning experience at this point.

Yes - I'd love to know how it goes for you. I'll check out propay so I know how that all works for the next show. Cool about the cash register. I'm sure you continue to refine and tweak how you run the business every time. I expect the same to happen to me. And move ahead as well to get my etsy site up. So much to do (all in a good way).

And is this not the most fun you have had being this busy?
