Teach Soap

Hey All,
My guy and I have been planning my improved workshop for ages, and it is finally done. We converted the basement kitchen into a more functional workshop for soaping: more light, no more slippery linoleum floor, stainless tables... I wrote it up , with pictures, of course! I am so happy! I moved most of my equipment back in yesterday, and sneaked in a quick batch of soap before my daughter came home from camp.

"My partners have wings!".....LOVE that. As for your workshop....OMG. What I wouldn't give to have a space like that to soap in. I'd think I'd died and gone to heaven. So much room! You will make tons of beautiful soaps. So happy for you!

I love it! I moved things back in yesterday, and did a bit more today, but stopped to make a loaf of soap. I've decided to add one more row of shelves--because there really are a lot of things I want to keep handy: the mixing buckets, colorants, additives like shredded loofah, and those EOs! The endless bottles! I didn't realize how bit my collection was...

But yes, I'm really happy, and I am amazed that some of you do this in the same kitchen you cook in. Where do you put stuff!!!!

I am able to see it now! The stainless tables are an excellent idea, and they look great too! I can't wait until I can have a space of my very own, but in the meantime I love looking at others soap rooms so I can get ideas. LOVE your room!

Here's one rather humorous moment from the reno: I bought a really good dishwasher, so that I wouldn't have to wash by hand, and so that washing and sterilizing would be quick. These restaurant dishwashers use special "soap," which I bought at the restaurant supply place. I look at the bottle and the ingredients: water, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide... That sounds very familiar...

So that's how it works! It saponifies all the grease on the dishes and then uses super hot water to rinse.
