I would love suggestions on what to do about labeling product. This seems to be the death of me. I want something professional looking, but having labels professionally made seems not only expensive but crazy if you change your recipes to fit people's needs, etc. Is there something I'm missing? I have a color ink jet printer - I've been doing the avery label thing, but it seems I spend much more time, money and effort trying to get things lined up and looking nice than I do making product!!! (that's probably an exaggeration - but not a big one)

I am a perfectionist when it comes to labels. I am also using avery and some full-sheet ones I got from a friend.

I find the 2x3 labels work great for bottles AND can easily be cut in half for lip balm tubes. I actually split one into 4 rows and used them for my .25oz jars.

Are you good with tables? I find if I use tables in word, and get rid of all the cell padding, it sets everything up pretty accurately.

FWIW, I looked into ordering some, but the cost was way too high for me. Especially considering most places wanted me to order mega huge quantities.

Which program do you use to make the labels on?

I posted this somewhere else - but Broderbund's "Print Shop" has been my Label program for about 9 years. It has been a very good product and uses Avery Label templates, but you can add art or photos or whatever to your labels and has a bunch of fonts and special effects. It does Labels, Brochures, post cards, business cards and much more. This program or any other brand of program like this one is good for a start-up business. A lot of bang for your buck.

I am an avid scrapbooker and I am going to incorporate the skill and the labeling I too don't have a designer. You can do alot with paper and cricket cutter

Hello! (rejoining the forum after forgetting both my username AND password...the pitfalls of being a senior citizen! LOL

If you're on a tight budget, as I am, and still want labels you can be proud of, it can be challenging, but it's possible. When I first started making soap, I used cigar bands made from scrapbook paper. They were beautiful, but it got too expensive once I started making larger quantities of soap and selling. Color is an important part of my branding, but even colored ink in my printer was beyond my budget. The way I got around that was to use colored copy paper. I get four horizontal cigar bands out of one sheet of paper, with very little waste, I just cut a bit off the ends. I then secure the bands with a sticky label on the back which I print myself, listing the ingredients. I've had many comments on my presentation, so apparently people other than myself, think they look pretty. Sometimes being on a budget can help spark your creativity. Good luck to you!
