Plucked up the courage to do cold process soap this morning.
The soap is going through gel phase now.

I used a lovely purple mica, but just went for a sneek peek and there are unsightly brown/ orange fine lines.

Is this part of the gel phase? Or have i done something wrong? :(

Also when is best to zap test? Is it after gel phase?

It's more than likely the gel phase. I have found with every purple that I have tried to use, it morphs through the gel phase but then will turn out a lovely purple in the end. I wouldn't sweat it right now. The best time to test for zap is after you unmold it. Let it sit in the mold until it is cool and then when you take it out, wet your finger slightly, swipe it across the soap and then put your finger to your tongue. You will know if it zaps or not. Congratulations on your batch!

it seems as if it hasn't even gone into any gel like consistency, however it did become very hot but has cooled down now. very slightly warm now.

Yucky brown lines are still there :( is this possibly just part of the gel phase?

I don't expect my first batch to be 100% perfect but these lines are just yucky to look at :(

And thank you, i feel its a great achievement getting to this stage in my soap journey :)

Where did the mica come from and did the vendor indicate that it's CP soap safe? Not all of them are.

Stupid me not reading the description. I lazily thought ohh micas ohh 12 pots, that's a good price.

Good job this is the first set i bought and only used 1 for the cp soap.

NOTE TO SELF: check next time

We all learn from our silly mistakes :(

I would get some Micas from Brambleberry. They list on the site which ones are soap safe.
