Teach Soap

I made a pumpkin soap Saturday using pumpkin puree for most of the water. When I mixed the lye into it, it changed into an amazing red color!! I decided not to swirl in the green I was going to because I figured that would turn to a horrible brown, so I set aside my green for some other project. When I added the lye/pumpkin mix to my oils it changed back to a pretty pumpkiny orange color, I added some poppy seeds and poured into my molds. I didn't insulate because I wasn't sure what the pumpkin would do as far as overheating. The next morning the soap was a very pretty yellow! The poppy seeds show up very nicely but I was quite amazed at the changes along the way. I wish I would have taken pictures of the various colors this batch of soap went through! I never saw such dramatic changes in the same batch before!

Ooh! Sounds exciting! I will have to try a pumpkin soap while pumpkin is still available in stores...

I did use fresh pumpkin, actually I used the inside goopy stuff instead of throwing it away as I usually do. I picked out the seeds, boiled up the goop and then pureed it!!
