So I made a batch of shampoo bars yesterday. Today I pulled them out of the oven and went to unwrap and what I found was very sad.

Here are the pictures.

Here is my recipe

12 oz coconut oil
10 oz castor oil
8 oz avocado oil
6 oz hemp seed oil
4 oz shea butter

15.2 oz water
5.7 oz lye

1.8 oz vanilla vanilla
.6 oz rosemary eo, .6 oz peppermint 2nd distilled eo, .6 oz tea tree oil

2 1/2 tsp. sodium lactate

cpop in my oven at 170 for an hour and then I turned it off once the soap had hit full gel. Left it in there till now.

My soaping temps were 115 & 120 and my lye water was crystal clear. I had no problems with trace or anything. The top half/green half of the soap seems to be soap but the center of it (which is the half I scented with vanilla vanilla and left uncolored) is still all gooey. Me being me I zap tested it even and there really wasn't anything. Just nasty soap taste so I have no idea what the hell is up with the gooeyness. Any ideas. I think I'm just gonna try to rebatch this. I made these for my husband (he can't use store bought soap) so I figure I will try anything to save them since I'm not selling them.

It's like part of my soap never left gel phase. It's not liquidy just gooey.

Oh that's a bummer! I think rebatch is the way to go here. Hope it turns out for you.

Well I took it out of the freezer paper and the whole center was gooey! I scraped up into my stock pot and put it on the stove and rebatched it. I just poured it into the mold. It will sit now till tomorrow morning and we'll see out it goes. I hope they're still good. My poor husband. He was so excited. Currently he is using using one of my regular bars to wash his hair. Does anyone have an idea as to what went wrong?

Looks like they overheated. I hope your rebatch works and you can salvage the soap.

Looks to me as if the vanilla was the cause of the problem. INS of 138 and iodine of 72, not very keen on those values. Castor oil at 25%?

That's what I was wondering... if the center just got to hot. :( The soap in my rebatch pot that was stuck to the sides has already cooled and I pulled a small piece off and tried it and it was nice so hopefully the rest of the batch will be just as nice. I have never had a problem with this recipe or fo's/eo's getting hot before while cpoping it but who knows. The soaping gremlins definitely decided to bite my butt this morning! lol

No. The one time I did that and got a ton if soda ash. I just turn the oven off when it hits full gel and then open the oven to help release the heat do it cools a little slower.

It's not the vanilla or the castor oil.
