Teach Soap

Today I was out at the grocery picking up some more coconut oil and found annatto seeds, I saw a video Anne Marie had done about using these as a natural colorant. How long should I let these little beauties sit in oil and what type of oil is best to use to use to infuse? So many questions.... I suppose it is better to ask questions then to not know at all.

I used Olive Oil and the longer that they stay in the oil the darker the color. I heated mine for about 20 minutes or so....not boiling though

Hi Dawn, thanks. I have seen a few different videos. One lady said use sunflower oil, another said soybean. so many different types. I know the color of the oil does impart some color to the base color you get in the end. I have Olive oil and soy oil. I wonder if I can soak it in coconut oil. my Coconut is really low temp melt so if i keep it in a window sill it may stay liquidy, Its a good clear oil. The seeds would be so pretty in it as well.

I would infuse them in whatever oil you normally use for your soap. This way you won't have to figure out a new recipe.

I thought I had to use a certain one. Normally I use OO and coconut of course. I found palm oil locally (YAY.. No shipping costs) and I just found a place that can supply me with LARGE quantities of activated charcoal very local so again, no shipping. I am again super happy. Now I need to find a local supplier for coconut oil and I will be set So I can use olive oil for the seeds and it wont affect the color of the end oil? I wouldn't want a funny color is all.

It will probably affect the color somewhat if the oil is very green, but if you use the yellow olive oil I doubt you'll see that much of a difference.

I infuse with either avocado or sunflower which is a small part of my recipe. I heat the oil and aeeda a bit and let them sit for a couple of days for a nice dark rich color.

Im in sunny southern California, I basically have to order everything. I lucked out as I said earlier and found a local supplier for woohoo activated charcoal! in HUGE batches! and then scored and found the annatto seeds in a little store for 89 cents for 1.5 oz packages then palm oil locally for 50 LB box's. Its been a good 2 weeks LOL So now i need coconut oil supplier to fall into my lap and ill be one happy little soaper.
