Teach Soap

Well, I made a loaf yesterday using two different FOs and 4 different micas. One of the scents...aka three of the colors really accelerated on me. While I was stick blended the TD into the vanilla, the other three accelerated and set. So, I ended up using the vanilla scented base to hold the others. I poured a thing layer of the white base and scoopd random amounts from the other three colors and dropped it into the mold. I then added some of the white base and used a stainless spoon to flattened the other colors into the hot white base and repeated all the way through the batch. I topped it off with powdered oats and crossed my fingers.

I unmolded and this is what I had:

So thank heavens for the vanilla scented white base...it saved my bacon so to speak and 60 oz of soap. Yay.

Thought I would toss the mishap info out there in case you find yourself in a similar situation...hope it helps.

You did a great job. It's so weird how quickly some of them accelerate. I read about these beautiful swirls and I'm trying to figure out how they keep their batter thin enough to pour!

Easy for you to say! Thanks for the tips, though. I still have to wait until I get lye delivered.

LOL tell me about it...I prayed and weighed my lye today after realizing I did not have another 2 lb bottle. I had 3.6 oz of lye left. OMG I cannot soap with that but wait....I have a small test batch recipe which requires 2.8 ounces of lye....yay so I soaped that and now I wait. hahahahaha

I have only 2.6 oz. I'm not sure what I could fill with that -- I'll wait . . . some more . . . Tuesday, if it comes then, is when I'll start soaping. Of course, Wednesday being Halloween and my little one has a party to go to, I'll soap later after she's in bed. Maybe I can get 3 batches done! I'm not making any predictions or promises. I just don't want any goblins to get me.

Does anyone know if DOS happen more on Halloween? The full moon is just passing. howl . . . howl . . .

Hmm scary Halloween orange DOS? Better leave out some cookies for the soap gremlins just in case!

Thank you Little Miss Smarty! The only issue is my molds hold 165 oz. Although I could use a hand soap size . . . hmmm

LOL. I will tell you what I did one soaping desperate day. I made a small batch and poured into a tray mold....when it hardened instead of cutting it with a cutter, I used cookie cutters and cut embeds from it.
I actually enjoy doing that at times instead of using mp embeds.

I find ways to soap...even in small amounts...lol
