So I just cut my second batch of soap this afternoon. (yay!) I used brambleberry's pink oxide (1/2 tsp) mixed with sweet almond oil (1 oz) to color my 2# batch. Everything had gone beautifully, temps lined up well, came to medium trace just perfectly, etc etc. (just FYI I used a wooden log mold my bf made for me, lined with freezer paper shiny side in) Then, this afternoon, when I cut it, it's a lovely mauve-pink around the outside with this strange square of grayish color in the middle, almost like I embedded a mini-loaf into the bigger loaf.

Here is the exact recipe I used:
-8oz palm oil (25%)
-8oz coconut oil (25%)
-8oz olive oil (25%)
-1.6oz castor oil (5%)
-1.6oz jojoba oil (5%)
-1.6oz avocado oil (5%)
-1.6oz sweet almond oil (5%) + 1oz swa for mixing colorant
-1.6oz Shea butter (5%)

-10.9oz H2O + 4.5oz NaOH (lye)

I used a 5% superfat for this recipe. In addition, I fragranced w/ 1oz brambleberry cherry blossom fragrance and 0.5oz brambleberry almond fragrance.

As far as I understood, this color was not supposed to morph. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Will the color return as the batch cures?

Thanks!! --Lindsay

It could be because it was just exposed to air. Give it some time. :)

I will, I think I panicked a little lol because it already seems to be resolving itself, and its only been a few hours on the rack.

But hey, whatever happens, my family all says it actually looks really cool, so maybe its a blessing in disguise :) We shall see....
