Teach Soap

Hi everyone, I am looking for a liquid washing machine soap recipe...one that is safe for HE front load washers.

This is what I use:
1 Fels-Naptha soap bar (or homemade with 0% SF)
1 Cup - Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (not baking soda)
½ Cup Borax
Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan with about 8 cups water. Stir continually over medium-low heat until soap dissolves and is melted. (The more finely grated the easier to melt!) Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water. Add melted soap, washing soda and Borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Fill bucket to top with more hot water. Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken. Stir and pour into smaller containers. Shake before each use. Use 1/4 cup per load.

I use that same recipe and it works GREAT! and it cost me about 3 dollars to make 10 gallons of soap....FLOORED!

Does anyone use their own handmade soap instead of the Fels Naptha?? How much do you use if you do??

I do - I make a 50% coconut/50% lard soap with 0% superfat just for laundry. I use 5 oz. of shredded soap per batch (a Fels Naptha bar is 5 oz).

I've heard that the 100% lard ones seem to get clothes cleaner, have you noticed a difference between coconut & lard ljm?

Not really. I do notice a difference in the amount of bubbles, though! The 100% lard has almost none.

What about a 50/50 Coconut/Olive Oil bar? Or stick with all coconut?

0 SF, how steep a percentage of water discount for laundry bars? 30% or less?

Ah, okay. I was just wondering about the water discount to help it dry.

I made some castile bars and tried to run it through my processor to chop it up after a month and it was still moist inside and clumped together. I'll try a coconut bar instead! Almost out of the stuff I bought at the store and would like to use my own next time.
