I was buying EVOO in the supermarket when I came across a cheap brand of shortening. I took a close look at the ingredients and sure enough it is a mix of tallow and various veg oils, which probably means cottonseed in practice. I wouldn't want to cook food with this, but it's well known that tallow makes an incredibly conditioning soap with great lather, so I guesstimated a tallow/cottonseed combination, and tried it at 20% of the recipe instead of my usual veg-based hard fat.
The soap looks darker in the uncoloured parts, which is unfortunate, but even with a cut-off chunk 2 days old, the lather is wonderful; it has a "cushion" effect to it. The recipe is something like 30% coco, 7.5% EVAO, 7.5% class A Shea, 30% EVOO, 20% tallow/??, 5% Sunflower HO.
