Shoot, shoot, shoot...I'm sure I'm not the first person this has happened to. As I was trying to cool off my oils in a water bath I accidentally splashed some water into the oils. Dang it! It was just a tiny 16oz batch, so a little splash means a lot to 16oz. From what I've read I'm pretty sure it'll still come out okay (just takes a little longer to unmold) and if not I can rebatch (right?), but that kind of seems a little extra for a little extra water.

I'm wondering if there is anything extra I can do to help this soap along? I heard someone say somewhere to put it on a heating pad. It's already gelled (I think) and cooled. Would adding heat from a heating pad mess it up in anyway? It wouldn't be enough to melt it....What about a fan?

On a side note, I'm sooooo sick of smelling Berrywine right now. I'd be happy if I never smelled it again. It's a very kid friendly smell to me.

It depends how much more actual water went in with that splash. If the soap seems soft after a couple of days, put it in the freezer, up to overnight. then take it out, unmold and cut as soon as you can. It will most likely need a longer cure time for all the extra water to evaporate.

I had a similar situation. I was interrupted and had too much water in my dry powders but poured anyway. I did the same process and when it was still soft two days later, i put the mold and all in a low temp oven (170 degrees) for two hours and then turned oven off and let it rest overnight in the oven
I unmolded and cut the next day...it cured out fine in a day over four weeks.

How horribly unsafe would it be to put a wooden mold in the oven at a low temp?

...My mother would KILL me!

Maybe I'll just stick with wrapping a hot pad half way around it.

What was the lye strength (percentage) you had intended?

The reason I ask is my first newbie batches were high water - like 26.5% lye strength. So if you had intended a higher lye concentration, but added some extra water....

...well - you might just have a "beginner" batch of soap like mine. Took 8 weeks to cure. Soap is perfectly fine. I just had to wait way longer that I wanted to use it.

I kind of inherited a tiny tiny kitten the end of last week, so I've been crazy busy.

Awwweeee!

These are the best pictures I have at the moment (sorry they are sooo crappy). This is when the soap was still way super wet. The grey is actually purple, it turned BLACK and then purple again.
Also, This is the tiny mold DH made out of the scrappy wood. He got a little crazy and cut that one side a little too much, and not thinking, I kept on pouring. Next time I'll pour that little extra few ounces into a tiny mold.

The soap actually came out really nice looking....for my first go at using more then one color. Again, sorry for the really crappy pictures, I was in a huge hurry.

...I'm having soap withdraws :( this week. I really need to order some supplies.
