Teach Soap

The wife made a second batch yesterday, just a half kilo thank goodness, and must have got the weighing wrong. The soap looks like it does when it's in gel. It looks shiny, like solidified oil, not soap. I put it in the oven and did a CPOP on it, and it melted all the way through, but the following day it is just the same: like taffy. I cut off a small piece and it doesn't lather properly. I am guessing she probably added one of the oils or butters twice. I did a tongue test and it is very bland.

I had one batch turn out similar to that when I read the incorrect number for my olive oil and added almost twice what I should have added. I ended up tossing it because it never hardened.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Those are the heartbreaking batches. Hopefully she won't give up!

Unless you know where it got messed up, I would trash it and start over. Did she use grams? Is your scale accurate?

The scales are good. I have three of them so I test them against each other, every so often. I suppose she was tired, it being late and the second batch too. "It's soap Jim, but not as we know it."

Soaping when you're tired doesn't ever really turn out to be a good idea.
