Teach Soap

Recently my hubby surprised me with a bulk order of Shea Butter. He was so proud I did not have the heart to tell him it was grainey. We live in Calif... when I finally get through this box of butter, what supplier will b good to try? I am looking at cost of product n shipping rates. I buy mostly from BB but sadly the bulk price is pretty steep n add the FedEx shipping. I looked at some other California vendors n they are pretty high ...way over BB!

The place were my husband bought is pretty competitive, even with the ground shipping...but was not too happy with the product
or maybe I go a bad batch

Shea butter can sometimes be grainy, depending on the time of year it is harvested and the time of year it is shipped, and the weather conditions (if it is hot and has melted and then cooled, etc.). What are you planning on using it for? In soaps, I haven't noticed a different between the times when I use smooth shea or somewhat grainy shea. (Others may have different experiences, though). If you want to try, there are various ideas online about heating and cooling it to help remove the graininess.
I always get mine from Coastal Scents. Free shipping over $50 and they have sales a few times a year that make the shea very inexpensive.

I found Cibaria and was going to order from them as I am on the West coast...

..but they require a reseller's permit so wholesale only. So far, they are the only west coast on-line vendor I have found that only sells wholesale.

Have not ordered from these guys in Oregon...have you looked at them?

I have two blocks (5lb each) of unrefined shea butter and I find it is grainy in the block. BUT once melted it makes wonderful soap and lotion, the graininess completely disappears. Where is yours from? Mine is from Essential Depot. Have been using it for a few months and haven't had it stay grainy at all!

Has anyone gotten shea butter from Soaper's Choice? $3 a pound! Wow. That's less than the bulk price I was paying.

I've ordered my products from essential depot as well. I haven't noticed any grains in their shea butter. I've only ordered from them and have been pretty happy with them, plus their prices are very reasonable.

I also bought mine from essential depot. I think I paid less than $30.00 for 5 lbs. They were the cheapest I found here on the east coast. I also get my olive, castor, palm, and lye from them and have been pretty happy with it. Here recently they have started carrying cocoa butter. Plan to check them out on that next order I place.

Feta cheese describes both of my essential depot blocks perfectly. Very crumby and looks almost like a sand texture.
