Hi Everyone

I want to add Goats Milk to BB Olive Oil re-batch. Do I need to add a preservative and if so what kind?

I am using BB olive oil re-bath. I can't say enough good things about this soap! It is wonderful! It has lather that feels like silk! It is so easy to work with and pours so easily! I just love it!

Hmmm, it never occurred to me to use a preservative when I re-batched my goats milk castile with goats milk. Wish me luck! In the everything soap making book it never mentioned using preservatives when re-batching with milk so I think you should be fine, but my batch hasn't finished curing so I can't say that first hand.

Hi,
I'm reading the Soapmaker by Coney. In the recipe for Buttermilk or Goat's Milk re-batch, she states to use 2 tsp powdered benzoin / LB as a a preservative.

I had never thought of it either.

Also, will Goat's Milk be OK with Olive Oil?

I love the way the scraps of the GM castile wash, it's still got the slimy lather of a castile but it feels good on the hands. It also had GM used to disolve the lye as well as to re-batch with so I'm not sure how just re batching with it will go down.

Benzoin is a known sensitizer and it's not a preservative. Adding any milk during rebatch could make your soap smell bad or go rancid faster. Think of leaving liquid milk on your kitchen counter for a week without refrigeration.

Coney states to use very fresh Goat's Milk but then to use enough FO or EO to coverup the "sour odor".

I am having doubts about this book.

Maybe powered milk would work better.

I don't know.
