Hi,

Wondering if Organic, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (Nutiva brand specifically) makes a difference to texture, longevity, quality of bar, etc.

Just purchased some and noticed that tracing is difficult to detect and it seems to jump right into a goopy state. Any others soapers dealt with this one?

Thanks, as usual.

DC

I've used it before and there is no difference in the final product. It's also pricey, so I stick with regular coconut. I have had no problem with accelerating trace. At what temp do you soap at?

I'm generally trying to soap around 87 degrees but to be honest, I'm not seeing too great a difference on the final result with temperature variations. Am I/what am I missing?? Does something major happen at 100, for example?

Thanks for the reply!

At 87 degrees, there is a chance that you can get what is called a false trace. That could be why you get the goopy state. I would try soaping higher like at 100 to 110 degrees.
