Teach Soap

I have finally gotten the guts to make my 1st batch of soap (and 2nd and 3rd ) My 1st 2 appeared to come out quite nice so I decided to try a slightly harder recipe...I could tell when I put it in the mold it wasn't going to be pretty (color, consistancy or fragrance). Not sure what I did wrong but it is really bad ! So can I just remelt the whole thing and try for something slightly better? Would I do it similar to M&P? Should I do it now or wait for a few weeks?

Cold process soap will not be as fluid as MP soap ever again. What was your recipe, temps and method? Did you run this new recipe through a lye calculator? Do you have an accurate scale? A stick blender? Did you reach true trace? Soap safe fragrance?

I had used the same recipe as the 1st 2 batches but this time I added fragrance and then was hoping to swirl in some color. One of the tutorials (can't remember which one it was at the moment) I had read suggested to add some of the oils from the batch to a cup with the colors to do the swirl (I used about 1 tsp each in 2 cups for the colors). I actually think I mixed everything together too soon...right around 110F...the other batches were down closer to 103F....It came to trace pretty quick then when I added the fragrance it thicken to a glob in seconds.

I bet it was the fragrance that accelerated trace for you. Depending which actual colors you used, you could use glycerin instead of oil to mix the colors with first.

I will give that a try.
Just to confirm...there is nothing I can do with this batch but throw it away correct?

If it's a small batch, I would just throw it away. I agree with Soapbuddy that it sounds like your FO was the problem. Some will do that.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Just start fresh. Why use up more of your time and or ingredients for a batch that might not be fixable. Don't forget to keep good notes for next time.

Why not rebatch it as a hot process? I've saved a couple batches that way!
