Teach Soap

So I watched several videos on making a pencil line in a loaf mold. The soap turned out so beautiful that I thought I actually had "arrived" in my artistic abilities... until I picked up the cut soaps to put them on the shelf to cure. Several of them fell apart at the pencil line. I was very careful not to sprinkle too much (merlot mica) colorant, and I slammed the mold down firmly to make sure there were no gaps or air bubbles. Any ideas on what I did wrong? I'm afraid to sell the ones that haven't come apart yet and people are Jones'in' to buy them, so I need to get this figured.

Generally its from too much powder between the layers. One of the things I do is to make sure that the moisture from the bottom layer is soaking into the powder, if there is a section where it isnt getting wet, I blow on it to spread it out and thin the layer. ( I will probablly get all kinds of comments on that process, LOL) I have not had any problem with my pencil lines but I have only used cocoa powder for them.

I have only done this twice, but I had much better luck not going all the way to the edges. And ditto the message above - you need less than you think!

making a pencil line is a bit difficult... some secrets : put a very very little powder, sprinkle it with a very thin sieve, far above the mold. your power don't have to cover all the saop, the seconde layer will do it.
I just think about something else : you can spray a little water on your powder but I don't know if it's a good idea...

Can you spritz it with rubbing alcohol to make the layers adhere to one another like in M&P?
