I made a 50oz batch of shaving soap, and had just poured it into my nice new heavy duty column mold. I was tapping the air out... and WHOP! The dog shoved me!! One hand went one way, one hand went the other, and the soap. Well, the soap went SPLATTER! All over the counter, drawers, floor and me. Oh crap.
1) get the dog out of here!
2) wipe the lye heavy batter off my bare feet legs and arms (No, I didn't get burned. Not even red or itchy. My skin is seemingly lye proof).
3) collect as much batter as I can off my nice clean counter and scoop it back into the mold. I managed to scrape up probably 40-45oz.
4) wipe up the remaining soap batter, which took almost an entire roll of paper towel, this stuff spreads out thin!
5) clean the surfaces well with cleaner.
6) tap the soap in the mold, and put it to bed.
7) wash labcoat on heavy duty, alone in the washer. What a waste!
take a shower to remove residual lye.
9) shake head at self for not paying more attention to the location of the dog.
So everything is fine now, no burns, no more mess, and I still have a decent amount of soap in my mold. In the future I think I'll tape the cap on the mold. You can't push it on all of the way because it becomes nearly impossible to remove, but apparently I had it a little to easy to remove. Oops?
