Teach Soap

So my friend wanted to try making soap...so she asks for the recipe for her favorite soap...double mint castille. I give her the recipe and have her repeat it to me and she gives it a try...

That was a little over a week ago and she calls today and says "I do not think this is right and it smells horrid". So we go over the recipe and she tells me exactly what she used...do you see the problem? I sure did.

This is what she put in:

8 ounces coconut oil
4 ounces palm oil
28 ounces olive oil
14.5 ounces water
15.9 ounces lye
1 ounce peppermint eo
1 ounce spearmint eo


I believe there is a "1" where it should not be don't you? Poor gal. She pitched it and is starting over. She admitted that she took off her glasses to wear her safety goggles and I believe she should have left them on.

Oh my! That soap would take the paint off the walls! Bless her. I hope the next batch goes better. LOL

Oh my Lisa you are correct MAJOR paint stripper indeed.

I did tell my friend to make sure she wears her goggles OVER her glasses this time. Hahaha

I think I'm glad I just bought safety goggles that will fit over my reading glasses BEFORE I attempt my first CP batch! Eeewwwww!

The lye wouldnt even dissolve well, if at all. ouch

It was indeed lumpy and soggy in spots and burnt and hard in others and she described to me. I did not see it but can imagine the mess.
