Now that is some funky stuff. I froze the goats milk then added the lye when I had thawed it enough to be slussy. Wow

Why wow? All my soaps are made with goat's milk, but never been 'funky' for me.

I guess I mean Wow because it looks so different than water and lye. I guess I mean Wow because of the yellow color it turned and when I just left it alone it got real thick on the top. I stirred it quite a bit to keep it creamy. I am using it with a 100% olive oil soap. I am told I need to let it cure for 6 months

Goat's milk soap does have some ammonia like smell. That should cure out.

The smell surprised me too, even though I expected it. Just didn't expect it to actually stink! The stink went away after a day or so at least!

my first goats milk..terrible experience. So much so that I have not tried it again. But I have some in the freezer so sometime soon. It overheated in spite of using a slush and an ice bath. then it overheated in the mold. It didn't crack or anything, but when I took it out of the mold it was leaking orange ammonia smelling stuff. After a few days when I cut it it had pockets of moisture coming out of it...now I know what to expect and what not to do (like not get so creative on the first time with a new technique).

I have seen some videos where some soapers add the milk straight to the oils, mix the Lye in a separate container with water and then combine those two together. Does anyone else do something similar? Does it work better in avoiding the overheating and burning of the milk sugars? :|

I freeze my milk and add the lye to it and stir gently while it melts. While I have never tried to play around with the water ratio, too nervous to try that yet...still learning :) , how would I determine the minimum amount of water that I would need to mix with the lye and then use the remaining amount for the milk to add to the oils?

Regarding the smell...It does have that smell of ammonia but usually goes away after the curing period.

Roxana,
You can mix your lye with minimum water required to dissolve the lye, (then add the rest of the liquid required as milk). I don't freeze my milk; actually mine is at room temp when I add it.

Roxana, I only add my lye to the goats milk if I want that golden color in my soap. Otherwise I add room temp milk to my warmed oils. My lye is disolved in water.... equal amouts as the lye plus 1 ounce. My colors have been ok, but then I am not fussy. It still can overheat as it is the sugar in the milk... does not matter when you add it.
