I am completely new to this and judging from my last batch I am having trouble getting the right amount of colorant incorporated. I have a bunch of pigments from BB to play with. I am wondering if I mix the pigment with a carrier oil ( thinking maybe the Sweet Almond oil) and store (premixed) in a glass dropper bottle will it keep that way for a while between batches? I'm thinking I would have to shake it before using them each time, but then I could just add drop by drop until I get what I want. I wouldn't end up wasting so much or using too much trying to get the desired color. Also thinking no cleanup would be nice. Can I do this with the titanium dioxide too? I either end up chalky or getting clumps the way I'm trying to do it now.

Oxides are oil soluble
Ultramarines are water or glycerin soluble.
Micas can be mixed with glycerin and shaken well before each use.
Titanium Dioxide is either water or oil soluble. So depending on which one you have, you can premix it into glycerin (water soluble) or some oil (oil soluble)
If you use water, you will also need to add a preservative.

Thanks soapbuddy! All the ones I have so far are oxides and micas and I got my TD from BB so I think it is soluble in both water and oil if I remember correctly. If I do get some that are water soluble how much and what kind of preservative do I need to use? I will probably just mix one oz at a time to store between uses because I only make about one batch a week. Until snow hits up here. Then I plan to fully indulge in my new obsession. Soaping is much more fun than shoveling

For wated based colors, I would use Liquid Germall Plus as a preservative. Make sure that you have a small accurate scale. Preservatives are used in tiny amounts and you don't want to over do it.
