I was all excited to make soap because I haven't soaped all summer. My Lock and Lock containers came today, so I dang near danced a jig in excitement. Now, I got everything together, but this was a new recipe that I'd worked up on soapcalc AND I used a new fo. Both no-nos, but I figured, what the heck.

Okay, I dissolved my lye in a 1:1 ratio with water so I could make up the remainder with coconut milk. I melted my oils, mixed in the coconut milk, and once the oils were at about 114 and the lye water was 104, I mixed it in. It took a little while to trace, but I attributed that to the milk. I added 2 tbs of kaolin clay (I used 40 oz of oils), and some TD. No problem. I finally got it to trace, and poured it in the container. After about 30 seconds, it was a goopy, oily mess. I was like, "WTH??" I poured it back into my bucket and this is what it looked like:

I tried and tried to beat it into submission:

It finally got really thick, but didn't seem to separate anymore.

I smashed it into the mold, stuck it in the fridge and immediately pulled out a wine cooler.

I hope it works.

WOW, after reading that I need a wine cooler too. today was supposed to be my soaping day, but between my mom and my roommate, I have managed to do absolutely zero...Maybe I can get some time in a little bit later.

I sure hope yours turns out well after your excitement.

Looks like a save to me. Some FO's just don't do well in CP soap.

I think it's a good save too. Maybe leave a drink and a cookie out to keep those soap gremlins busy?

I'm impressed. It was great that you did not give up! And even better yet that you had a wine cooler in the fridge handy!! I saw the cut bars on the other thread and they look great. Curious, what FO did you use?

Thanks Bubbles. I used Coconut from a local supplier. In my mind I saw white, creamy, smooth bars with a swirly textured top. That is NOT what I got!!

Sounds like you managed to save the batch! I had soap-on-a-stick once that I had to mash up with my whisk and glop into the mold. The soap wasn't pretty, but it was usable.

I'd say that you definitely earned that drank! I was thinking the same thing as Sudsy - maybe you should leave a wine cooler or two out for the soap gremlins, just as long as they understand that they can have them only if they agree to go away.

I saw the bars on the other thread, they looked good, and glad to hear this turned out to be such a nice creamy batch.

One thing you might like to know: not all local suppliers can be relied upon.
A rep told me once, "Ah, ____________. That's not a good company."
He didn't want to say more, but I found out later from another contact that the company concerned is thought to dilute its FOs (with what, I have no idea)
