Hi all,

Yesterday I made two batches of soap with nearly identical recipes (negligible differences, but I can provide details if needed). I put one batch in the fridge to prevent gelling, and insulated the other with a towel to encourage gelling (which it did, with a vengeance). Now it is the next day, and the gelled soap has hardened fairly nicely, but the fridge soap is soft like butter! Is this normal? And what should I do - wait another day or two before unmoulding the soft soap? Do something else? Or just not worry and proceed as I usually do, hoping it will harden as it cures?

I'd really appreciate any advice or insights.

Brent.

Ungelled soap takes longer to get harder. So, your results are completely normal for ungelled soap. Just wait a couple days before unmolding. After it unmolds you'll most likely have to wait another day or so to cut it, otherwise you'll get cutting streaks because the middle's so soft.

I agree. I prefer not to gel and my soaps start out softer. By the time they are cured they are nice and hard.

Thanks very much for the replies! I feel reassured, and I will look forward to unmoulding my soap tomorrow :-)
