Okay...so I THINK I may have had all my questions regarding goats milk and lotion answered for now...but on to soap...I'm ITCHING to learn more!

So...tell me this....EVERYTHING ON THE INTERNET AND IN BOOKS I FIND SAYS TO FREEZE THE MILK THEN THAW TO SLUSH AND THEN ADD LYE TO SAID SLUSH...BUT WAIT!!! What's this I am FINALLY finding about adding it AFTER "trace"? HUH? Because...let's be honest...I tend to freeze milk in like ...oh...2 quart bottles! I'm NEVER getting that "slushy"! EVER! I'd have to thaw and then REFREEZE it in ziploc bags or something...when you thaw a 2 qt bottle it thaws into a smaller shrinking little brick...NOT "slush"....

Anyways, could someone PLEASE tell me more specifically how one would figure things out using the calculators to add milk AFTER the fact? Because I am confused...do I still have to use ICE but WATER...like ICE CUBES? To add the lye to? THEN add the rest of the "liquid" being goat milk to the mix after I reach trace?

Okay...REAL slow like now.....'cuz I am lost....

This is what I would do to keep things simple. Calculate your total liquid needed for a recipe. Use the minimum amount required to mix your lye in. Use water as that part to mix your lye with. Let cool. Mix the lye water with your oils/butters. As soon as they are mixed, add your milk as the rest of the liquid required. I add my milk as a liquid at room temp. I don't freeze it or make it slushy. I also prefer not to gel, so the soap comes out lighter. I put my soap in the fridge or the freezer; up to overnight.

OKay...so...to clarify.....

Let's say I need 24 oz of liquid...using oh, 10oz? (a guess) of water I mix it and the lye and let it cool....then add that to the oils and using my stick blender get it good and mixed...THEN add the rest of the liquid (being 14oz goat milk) and VOILA! Into the molds it goes and then into the fridge...Si or No?

I LOVE the idea of using the milk at room temp...I have some fresh from the goats on the counter right now :) I COULD...IN THEORY....go practice...I DO have my goggles and gloves ready....

THANK YOU by the way! So...does that sounds right?

No. You need enough water for the lye to completely dissolve. I would go with 16 ozs. of water and add the rest as milk.

Thank you again! I was just guessing at numbers...makes sense though when I think about it all critical style...and NO I did NOT disappear to go make soap...been on the phone talking goats with someone...just saying in case you thought I went to burn down the kitchen LOL...haven't made it that far yet!

I can't wait until the day I can talk SOAP with people! (I mean in a know what I'm doing kinda way, not a lost lady with a bucket of lard and some lye haha :) ) I have this goat thing figured out pretty well, cheese too...now on to one more aspect of being the keeper of my herd :P

How wonderful to be able to go full circle with your goats. I bet is so rewarding to raise your goats and use the milk for products you can both use and sell. Good luck with your soap. Sounds like you're on your way to a great soap.
