Teach Soap

I made this soap yesterday. Made with olive, coconut, palm, and shea butter. Made with wine instead of water & scented with "berrywine" FO by BB. Colors: merlot sparkle, black oxide, ultramarine violet, and glitter on top!



This was my first attempt at a pencil line / vein. I followed a video putting a little bit of black in a mesh strainer and tapping lightly until the area was barely covered before adding the top layer.
I also took advice to cut the soap on its side so the pencil line didn't run through the soap on the blade.


Question - is it normal for it to smear on the blade when cutting? I wiped it off each time and rubbed a paper towel over the soap before putting on the drying rack. I tried to use as little as possible -- I am worried that if it's coming off on the blade it might come off when washing and ruin towels?

Looks like you did dust a bit too heavy but the smear on your blade might be because your soap is still too "wet" to cut. Your soap looks like top and bottom are in tact, so I won't worry about it. Pencil line is going to smear a little no matter what and how you cut it, just clean it up between every cut you will be fine.

Newbie still learning.....

Trying to find the balance between too little and too much is definitely an art! I was hoping for a more drastic contrast in the purple colors -- but work in progress, still happy with the result! Will test it in a month and see if it smudges any.

I have never had a pencil line stain a wash cloth.

Sometimes A Mistake is so much fun, You just have to do it again!

I've not had one stain a cloth either, I have had the soap fall apart once the bar was mostly used though. My husband just stuck them back together LOL

My first pencil line resulted in colored lather but didn't stain anything. My latest pencil line is in coral mica and I'm pretty sure I got it too thick yet again!

I learn so much when I can't leave well enough alone!

The only pencil line I've done so far was with Paprika and that didn't stain or smear at all.
