I finally got to try my hand at whipped soap. And as with most anything I do there is a little bit of a learning curve. But in the end it is becoming soap. I used just a very basic recipe: coconut, palm and lard so I could get used to the process. My first take on this is; it is messier than regular CP soap. Getting it in the mold is the hardest part. My favorite discovery was that it looks like marshmallow fluff! You see I have never out grown the love of that or marshmallows. So here are the photos. I fragranced with Sweet Meyers Lemon and leather. Now I am offically out of leather and will have to put in another order to BB.

(and now that I have photobucket on my side again...)
this is Clean Leather and Liam the swimming pillar....

It will be along 4 weeks waiting to see if it actually floats!

Mine floated and they were bigger. I hope yours does too.

I like Liam! :D
I hope they float. I want to try whipped soap when I have some more time. I'd like to make some small, cute whipped soaps to handout to the kiddos at the market & shows.

Linda, that is a great idea. After all it would be mostly the children that would take baths, which is where the floating soap is benificial. I for one love to read in the tub. The catapillers will go to my grandchildren, once I let them cure and give them some eyes.

I love to take baths, my husband wants to rip out the tub because he doesn't like them! I told him a house with 3 showers and no tub would be worth less on the market than one with a tub, so it gets to stay! He may even (one day) upgrade it to a Jacuzzi tub! Maybe I can find one on freecycle LOL

This is my technique: spoon, level the top with a spatula, bang it, spoon some more, level, bang it!   I have also discovered that a thinner silicone mold is easier to get this soap out of. I have a thin puppy dog silicone mold that should work well..that will be next. I can also see why they use pastry bags\tips... but I do not want to use the ones I currently use for desserts, so will have to watch for at rummage sales or thrift store.

Whipped soap is a lot of fun! And they do float, if you've done it right, meaning whipping air into the soap and not flatten it. Because its done cold, it will take longer to saponify, wait a couple days longer to demould usually will get it out without chipping. Or you pop them in the fridge for a few hours that would get them out sooner.

Thanks Cat. I noticed the edges did chip easily. I unmolded at approx 23 hours. The little catapillers I put in the freezer for over an hour and they came out much better. I am sure I will do better next time. I was suprised I was able to use a silicone mat cutout and have the design show up. Once it cures I am going to compare the weight of this soap to another bar made in my 12 bar silicone mold. I figure it should be a lighter weight by volume because of the air.
