I have had people ask for a pure olive oil soap. Is it really olive oil and nothing else? Just olive oil sure comes out funky in soap calc. Sometimes I have heard it is soft and sometimes I have heard it is a hard bar. Any advise?

Olive Oil soap is known as Castile soap. 100% Olive oil. Takes 6 months + curing time to be really good. Google 'Castile Soap'. Can even just google "Olive Oil Soap"

I make 100% olive oil soap using goats milk in place of water and it is wonderful. It makes a very hard bar-this is one reason to take the results from soapcalc with a grain of salt. It shows it as a very soft bar and with very little cleansing power, but that's not true. I love it as a facial soap. I superfat at 7% and let it cure for at least 6 months. 8)

I think I will give it a try. If I use goats milk is it the same amount as water?

I bought some soap from another artesenal soapmaker in my area, it is supposed to be Castille. The bars are hard enough. However I don't like it because it takes ages to get it to lather, and then, the lather is like a creamy lather, not bubbly at all. Is that normal with Castille soap (I've never made it myself) or is the soapmaker lacking in know-how?

What is the smallest proportion of water to lye that one could safely use? That is, could I use 1/2 the water (and make the rest up with the milk)? 1/3 of the amount of water? 10% of the amount of water, mixed with the lye, and then make up the volume in milk?

If I want to add the milk at trace, I will use the equal amounts of lye and water, plus an extra ounce of water to be sure the lye will be fully dissolved. So for 6 oz. of lye, I would use 7 oz. of water. The rest of my water amount will be the milk added at trace.
