Teach Soap

Hi everyone,

I am gong to try infusing some herbs and stuff and wondered about a few things.

1. Will be a calendula infusion which is pretty straight forward but I am curious about good oils and scent for sensitive skin because this is intended to be for sensitive skin or even a baby bar. I was planning on using mostly olive oil, palm and coconut with castor and shea both 5%. Considering orange EO?????

2. Next up is my rosemary infusion, also don't really want any real skin irritants in this one. Does rosemary scent survive the process and how much would any of you use if only for this one 2 pound batch.

3. I also have some juniper berries, from another post I do know it won't keep its scent and color but lets hope it keep some properties:) Anyone used this before? What FO/EO goes nicely with it?The berries may just end up be a marketing thing or for decorating

4. Has anyone ever used nutmeg powder(or just the spice I have for cooking, hopefully fresh enough). Thought about putting it in an infusion with other herbs or just mixing it with some oils and adding it at trace? Suggestions please?

5.Lastly....I plan on using a crock pot to put my jars with herbs in for warming but wondered how long to leave them warming? Is it bad to leave the herbs in the oil after they have heated...say overnight or a day until I can use them. not too concerned about the oil itself as I plan on only making enough to do the soap batch:)

For sensitive skin or for babies, I would do 100% olive oil at 7% superfat and no additives at all.
Rosemary infused oil most likely won't smell like rosemary after you CP it. (such a shame - I love the scent of rosemary!)
Nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves can be irritating so you probably don't want to add them at trace. They really won't add anything to your soap except as a colorant and cocoa powder would be better since it doesn't cause irritation.
Can't help you with the juniper berries or your last question about the crock pot.

I've let my chamomile infusion sit overnight in the crockpot, I've never done it in jars though. I infuse the olive oil and chamomile in the crockpot on low for 2 hours, and then sometimes let it sit overnight and strain it the next day. I wouldn't let it sit out longer than overnight, but that's just me. I would store any leftovers in the fridge

Anyone know about peppermint oil? It must be somewhat an irritant as well, correct? Or just tingly? I thought about adding a little to the rosemary bar, can one of you suggest an amount to start with?

I've never found peppermint irritating, but some folks dislike the tingly cooling sensation it gives. I personally find it super revitalizing!
