Teach Soap

I have been using a 5% superfat and was thinking about trying 7-8% instead..in an attempt to get my moisturizing into my bars. Wonder if that extra superfat would put my bars at risk of going rancid? Normally I only use olive, palm, coconut, shea and cocoa butters and caster but I will be trying a few others I think. I know grapeseed has a short life but not sure of the others. I am also wondering about cutting my olive oil with a less expensive oil however I am looking for one that is as good for the bar as the olive
Also looking at putting my shea and cocoa butter(I don't normally put them both in one bar) up to about 10% from 5%...I know I need to justuse a teeny bit of castor oil but do these butters stand a little higher in the bar?

Oh, by that I mean...can I put 10% shea or cocoa in my batch instead of my normal 5% without any trouble:)

Ha Ha I am fading! Yes, you should be fine if your recipe balances out. Do you use soapcalc's lye calculator (soapcalc.net)? It will let you know the attributes of a soap you are designing before you make it, although it does underestimate the hardness contributed by olive oil. Whatever you decide, run your proposed recipe through soapcalc first to see if it looks good.

I prefer at least 7% superfat. I live in the desert. I find 5% superfat drying. I have not had a problem with soap getting DOS at this %.

I've used soybean (regular vegetable oil) as a sub for 15% of my olive oil and it makes a really nice soap.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I've used high-oleic sunflower oil as a sub for olive oil and it produces an excellent soap. Now that oo is cheap I use that.
