Hi all. I made a peaked cp soap 2 days ago with method where lye goes straight into oils without heating oils. I used bergamot, jasmine and yang yang E O's. It is still a dark colour throughout and looks like its still in a gel stage. I did wrap the mould in towels and leave till next day. Will this awful colour fade back to creamy colour? Thanks all :P

Can you share your recipe? Did you color the soap, or were any of your oils dark in color? Pictures?

Is the soap still warm or cool to the touch? If it's room temperature, then it probably gelled and will retain that darker, translucent look. Those EOs shouldn't discolor though. Are you sure your jasmine EO is an EO and not an FO? Real jasmine is incredibly expensive. Floral FOs tend to overheat. And ylang ylang can also accelerate your batch.

Depending which oils or butters you used originally, it might lighten up a little.

Hi, thanks for replies, sorry for delay. I used 1kg coconut oil, 600g pomace olive oil, 380 g palm oil, 306 lye, 653 water, 20ml bergamot, 10ml jasmine and 20ml Ylang Ylang.1.5 tsp orris root powder, 1 tsp red iron oxide. I mixed at 100 degrees and it came to a very quick trace. I tried a swirl effect but it kind of did not work as the soap was going solid too quickly. I do use essential oils and the jasmine was £25 for 10ml which I thought was very expensive! I wanted to keep the soaps natural so did not want to use FO's. Hope this can shed some light on the situation. The soap is still very dark and gel looking. I am not having much luck as my honey soap has cracked today and I do not know if that will be all th way through, i will have to wait until tomorrow to find out. :(

Since you used floral EO's which tend to accelerate trace, it's possible that you didn't reach true trace. Adding red oxide might make it look like it's still gelling as red oxide can make the soap look dark. Soap that's cracking is overheating and should be taken away from the heat source or cooled off.

I take it that this is for personal use, as my rough calcs show that the cost price of ingredients alone is about $2 per 100g bar!

I am wanting to start and sell eventually. All my soaps seem to be about £1 per bar for me to make before packaging. I will use EO's that cost less but do you think I need to change an oil to make it less expensive? I have not used sunflower oil but know this costs less, any ideas for other oils or ways to keep costs down would be gratefully accepted thanks :D

Your oils aren't too expensive comparatively, just your fragrances (essential oils). There are many to be had a good deal cheaper than those. :) I believe Sunflower oil is prone to rancidity, correct me anyone if I am wrong, never used it.
