•6.3 oz. Coconut
•1 oz. Castor
•2.1 oz. Canola
•3 oz. lye

If you wanted to add a butter to that recipe, I would replace the canola oil with your butter of choice, and of course very important to recalculate your lye after that.

Just a heads up also, I have not soaped with canola oil, but I know many have said here on the forums that it is prone to going rancid (DOS-dreaded orange spots) in soaps. You might want to remove it and refigure your recipe at equal parts palm/olive/coconut, plus castor. That is a very good beginner recipe. Something like 32% each palm/olive/coconut 4% castor. And of course, recalculate your lye. :)

Good luck on your first batch, omg!! :D

I don't use canola as I get DOS with it. Good luck on your batch!

Just to clarify what I have read about HP i don't need to be concerned about temps when adding oil to the lye solution since i will be cooking it anyway right?

You don't need to mind temperatures when you are hot processing, don't have to worry about letting things cool before blending.

My volcano was with too hot lye and that was in a mold, not a crock-pot. So I wouldn't say that either lol.

I've seen a youtube video of HP that was done with freshly mixed lye... POOF! Volcano! I can laugh now, since I've done this myself once (with liquid soap). At the time all I could do was stand there and look at it and yell "Mom!! HELP!!!" then she stood with me and we both stared at it LOL

Ok so i should go ahead and let both cool? The directions say to about 90 degrees. Also Should I do half water ( to mix lye) Then add the other half of CM at trace? I read that you could end up with brown soap if you add the lye to the CM. I dont want brown soap!
