Teach Soap

Can someone kindly enlighten me on why such a conditioning oil like coconut suddenly takes on a drying property in CP? Most my bars have been 30/30/30 palm/olive/coconut with a little shea, castor and/or cocoa butter. Tried a few batches with mess palm and coconut and a little more olive, but olive oil seems a little more expensive than others so perhaps I should sub in another less pricey oil!

Also, how would I know if there where lye pockets in my soap? If I zap test, how am I sure there isn't a heavy spot in another bar not tested? With my batches so far I am pretty confident its all ok, only cause I have made sure its traced and mixed so that should be good...right?

One more thing:) I have tried my 2nd batch of soap, which I put a little black detailing on top and I think I used too much oxide. The bubbles are grey if I concentrate on the that color part while scrubbing, is this an ok soap to use still! The black is only 1/4 inch or less on the top!

Its fine hehe, most of my soaps have coloured lather. Either from pigments/micas or from their vanilla content.

Coconut oil has:
Lauric 48%
linoleic 2%
linolenic 0%
Oleic 8%
Palmitic 9%
stearic 3%
myristic 19%

Each soapmaking oil has its own values. Some of these values make the oil more drying in larger amounts.
If you have reached true trace, soap didn't overheat, and all your calculations were correct, you should not have any lye pockets. Oxide works the best inside the soap, not on top. If the lather is other then white and you are selling that might be a problem if it stains someone's wash cloth. It's not so critical if the soap is just for you.

Or lowering the CO to 20-30% and adding lots of other good stuff like shea and castor?
