Teach Soap

Ok, I want to start my business legally! It looks like soap maker guild may be the best for insurance and the other benefits but friends are advising a LLC. What about tax Id's? I was told if I'm just selling out of my home, I dont need one.
Will anyone share their advice?

Wow - legal advice from a public forum - you are a brave person! lol

Laws can vary from one jurisdiction to another - your best bet would be to start with your local Chamber of Commerce and a good thorough internet search for licensing and business regs in your area using government websites.
Some parts of your question may not be related to each other = for example - having insurance is a whole separate issue from whether or not you decide to incorporate.
My advice would be (once you have done legitimate research on the legal stuff) to start with what the law requires, and then add the other stuff as you can.
This part is not nearly as fun as making the products, but once it is done, it will be worth it!

OK - didn't mean to be redundant - but your post sounded like you were starting from scratch.

Go to your city hall and ask. I need a business license, a resale license, liability insurance and a home inspection. I don't have an LLC.

Go to your state's website and look for a business link - there should be all kinds of info about the requirements for starting a business as well as resources to help. That will give you a place to begin.

Don't forget to check the local regulations on soap and cosmetic manufacturing. It turns out that in Florida I can make soap from home, but anything else requires a separate manufacturing facility.

Don't let that scare you (unless you live in Florida). Most states aren't as restrictive as Florida is.
