Hi, I'm a CP Newbie.

Waiting on the rest of my supplies from NG before I start.

If someone with CP experience would chime in on my recipe, that would be great!

using BB.com:

Almond Oil (Sweet) 2.00oz 03.6%
Castor Oil 3.00oz 05.5%
Coconut Oil (76 Degrees) 16.00oz 29.1%
Olive Oil (Pomace) 16.00oz 29.1%
Palm Oil 16.00oz 29.1%
Shea Butter (Refined) 2.00oz 03.6%
0% Lye (Sodium Hydroxide) Amount 8.239oz
Ounces of liquid recommended 18.15oz
Yields 81.39oz

Does this sounds like a nice hard bar, with lots of lather?

That's a pretty big recipe. I would recalculate it so you would end up with a 2 lb. batch. That way you won't end up wasting your ingredients in case you don't like it. Almond oil is a soft oil and so is castor. I would leave out the almond and add the difference to your olive.

You can't do 0% lye. I normally superfat at 7%.

The reason for the big batch is my mold. I want it to be full. (4-5 pound wooden mold)

I've soaped with a friend before, so I know how to soap. I guess it's just a matter of finding a base recipe I like best.

I will be using FO's that NG has tested (By Kim, their Product tester), so I don't think I will have to worry about seizing with the FO's I'm going to use.

For FO's I am unfamiliar with, I will definitely make a 1 pound test batch using this (or my own recipe cut down):
24 oz Olive Oil (680 grams)
6.4 oz Coconut Oil (181.5 grams)
1.6 oz Castor Oil (45.4 grams)
12.16 oz Water (345 grams)
4.4 oz Lye (125 grams)

Thanks for your feedback.. I wonder if I cut back on the Almond oil (say 1oz) in my recipe, if my bar will be nice and hard.. I guess there's only one way to find out...lol

Oh, and one last thing.. I got the recipe from Soapqueen.com, and just upped the Castor Oil, and added the Almond/Shea Butter.

This is the original:
16 oz. Coconut
16 oz. Palm
16 oz. Olive Oil
2 oz. Castor Oil

13 – 19 oz. water
7.4 oz. lye

Almond Oil 1oz. 1.85%
Castor Oil 3ozs. 5.56%
Coconut Oil 16ozs. 29.63%
Olive Oil 16ozs. 29.63%
Palm Oil 16ozs. 29.63%
Shea Butter 2ozs. 3.70%
Total Weight 54ozs.

For that size batch you can use 14 to 20 fluid ounces of liquid. You would need 7.5 ozs. of lye for a 7% superfat.

***For batches that have three numbers after the decimal point ie: 0.536, round up your oils or butter and round down for your lye.

You're welcome and good luck on your batch.

Question... When I weighed my water, I measured in FL oz (on the scale).. Should I have just weighed in ounces?

Would it be smarter to measure in grams, or is my batch big enough that ounces will do?
