Teach Soap

Does anyone know why this oil has skyrocketed in cost? Last year I was purchasing 7 lb for around $40. I purchased my last 7lb late last year at $60 for 7 lb. Now, the least I can find it is $85 for 7 pounds. I use this oil in all my soap formulas UGGHHH! Can't find a reason why this increase has happened.

Lower harvest brought higher prices.

I prefer to use this oil in lotion. Too pricey for soap for me.

I'd seen evening primrose on BB's lye calculator, but had never seen it sold, so didn't pay attention. But I saw it just yesterday at Target and so now I'm wondering, are there any special properties that this oil contributes to soap? Is it fantastic enough that I should go back and get some to try out?

Its an oil that is high is gamma linolenic acid or GLA. Topically it has been shown to help dry skin, and various skin conditions - here is a link describing some of the benefits

I love it in soap - and I use a high percentage. Its an oil that has great "curb" appeal, it also leaves my skin feeling wonderful. I will continue to use it, have enough profit margin in my soap to eat the price increase for now. I am NOT a believer that just a tablespoon of this oil in a batchof soap will give you much benefit. If you are in business I don't recommend using it as much as I love it. The market is too unstable - if they have another bad crop year this year I expect the price to triple again - at which time I will have to look at reformulating and YUCK, what a nightmare. However; for personal use try it in your soap!!! Or as Soapbuddy said, try it in a lotion or other topical application.
