Teach Soap

Hi
Wonder if anyone has ever tried honey powder in their soaps, does it heat up the same? What is the purpose to using honey in your soaps if it overheats so easily? And how much can you use in it? I seen one picture on the board that had the soap flowing over the mold, is that salvageable?

I acutally bought the honey powder to try in my lotions but I am still looking for info on how much to use in that as well

My sincere advice is ,take it slow,read everything about what your going to use before you use it,that way your already knowledgable about what your ingredients lend to project, when i fist started I purchased everthing that i found irresistable,and that is expensive.

It is very easy to overpurchase. I did the same thing. Anything that sounded cool, or looked cool, I bought it. Aside from the fact that I didn't truly know how to use them properly, these are natural products, and they do go bad. So, reign in the eagerness, and focus on a learning about a few things at a time. I've learned my lesson the hard way. I had to make a LOT of soap because of my overpurchasing. I've given SO much soap away, and still have plenty for my use. Good luck!

1 tsp. per lb. of oils is what most people use for honey. I would not use honey in lotion at all as it is very difficult to preserve.

I've used honey powder. It's a nice humectant and gives the soap a light honey smell. Like soapbuddy said, 1 tsp/lb of oils is good.

The way I use it is by taking a little bit of my lye water (before adding the lye) and mixing just a bit of the water with the honey powder to rehydrate it. I put that off to the side and continue on with soaping like normal. I add the rehydrated honey back in at light trace.

Also, like soapbuddy said, honey of any kind in lotion is hard to preserve because of honey's wonderful humectant properties.

what about putting it in whipped butter, that wouldn't have water so should I still be careful of going bad?

Seems like I should stay safe and stick to putting it on soap. It shouldn't speed up soap going bad, correct?

Thanks everyone for all the responses, apparently this is going to take me longer than I thought to get the best recipe I can to sell....and more money than I thought trying batches

How long did it take you all to achieve your sellable recipes?

Have you ever tried honey powder in a lotion base?

Guess there isn't any way to re-coop some of the money we use while testing formulas...just enjoy the products ourselves

Well over a year to decide on some favorite recipes and I still do not sell after 2 1/2 years! I am a little concerned that it will then become work for me and I already have 2 part-time jobs! I am currently in the process of developing a palm\lard free recipe. What I enjoy is creating and how it helps me to unwind. I mostly enjoy the gifting of my soaps.... if you give to the 'universe' - it will give back!

Because I would really like to say I have made it, M&P just doesn't seem the same to me, kind of easy way out...no offense to anyone who does sell it instead of CP.
I may get a little bit to try with my 9yr old though.

From what I have read so far, I can imagine there are plenty of people selling 'less then perfect' soap out there and I will be careful if buying any I however want mine to be great, so if it takes time than time it will take to perfect my recipe!
