Teach Soap

I never try my soap until it has cured for several weeks. But I made a batch on Tuesday and decided to try some of the scraps today (so 48 hrs. No zap either). However, I noticed my hands felt very dry later. Is this because the soap is still uncured? The recipe was:
Castor Oil 6.1%
Coconut Oil 26.1%
Olive Oil 40.0%
Palm Oil 20.0%
Cocoa Butter 7.9%

What's up with that? Since I always wait to try it (Lord knows I have enough laying around), I have no idea if using basically raw soap could be the reason.

yes, happened to me too...the soap just hasn't cured long enough. the longer the cure, the milder the soap will get.

How much did you superfat? I presume you ran your recipe through a lye calc? Is this CP or HP? Did it gel?

I did run it through a lye calculator. It's CP, superfatted at 7%. I don't think it gelled; I did not insulate. It's colored pretty dark so it might be hard to tell.

If it didn't gel, you will need to give it more time. Check it again in a couple of weeks.
Ungelled soaps take longer to completely saponify. Some of my ungelled soaps can zap, up to three days later. Once fully cured they are great soaps.
