I'll try to keep this short and sweet...lol OK I am about to place yet another order...but for what?

I know I should find some recipes that I wana make and than order those ingredients, However what I would like to do since it takes so long to get here is order the ingredients that are absolutely necessary for most recipes and enough of it so I don't have to order every time I make a batch of soap.

Like the staples per say. Also what ingredients will I find in recipes that aren't in all of them but should have just in case. You know what i mean? There are so many recipes out there I have know idea which ones are good and not so good...what ingredients are in recipes that you know "oh this is a good one to make"

Than down the road I can come up with my own....someday :?

1 more thing, i promise what are the staple colors besides primary should I have.

TIA Dana

For CP, I'd start simple - olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, castor oil, and either cocoa butter or shea butter. You could start with just the first three and make very good soap. Sodium hydroxide (hard to get locally and cheaply for most of us). Start with a few fragrance oils that you might like (It's easy to go crazy here). Brambleberry has some nice sample packs if you want some variety but not too much. If you want to work with color, again, I'd recommend the pigment sampler from Brambleberry. A little goes a long way.

Other essentials which could be obtained locally or on line: a good digital scale, a stick blender, safety goggles and gloves, and some sort of soap mold, the latter doesn't have to be any fancier than a shoe box. Freezer paper to line your molds.

Enjoy!

How about the beginner's cold process soap kit that BrambleBerry carries? http://www.brambleberry.com/Beginners-C ... P5202.aspx
That would give you an idea what oils you like in soap. You can then reformulate from there.

As Judy said the sample packets are a good way to start. I did that with fragrance and color and never regreted it. Some oils you can find at the local 'big box store', some at the grocery store. I would decide on a basic recipe first and build from there. Alot of time I would get local, try it and if I decided I liked it in my soap would add it to the list for the next order. This is what I did with castor oil, now it goes in every batch.

So the meadow form oil, rice oil, tamanu oil, hemp oil, apricot kernal oil, liquid silk and all that stuff I really don't need at this point? Also is there anyway to get it shipped faster, it takes 3 weeks to get to me. Could I pay for faster shipping?

Thanks so much for all your advice!

I am in Wayne, NJ and I use bramble berry because I love them and the you tube videos Ann Marie does. they are so helpful! I really want to stay with them. Ya know i never even looked to see where they are located! My bad, but it doesn't matter i still will use them i guess I will just have to order larger amounts of things or order asap when I need something....Oh while I got your attention is all the oils like sunflower, sesame oil, hazelnut oil etc that you see at the grocery store the same oils you buy at soap suppliers, any difference?

You can use the grocery store oils, but they are usually more expensive than through a supplier. If you only need a small amount though, it's a good way to try new oils.

I love BB but shipping to me was expensive when I needed large quantities of oil so I switched to Soaper's Choice which is closer to me. I use BB for pretty much everything else--colorants, essential oils, molds etc.
