Teach Soap

Can someone take a look at this recipe and possibly give some advice on how to lower the cleansing quality? I have got all my other numbers kind of exactly where I want them, but the cleansing is a bit high for me. It could be that because its so conditioning, that it wont matter....but somehow I figured out how to get to this point (trial and error, and a lot of just poking around on soap calc) but getting the cleansing number to drop is starting to give me an algebraic head ache!

for 3 lb batch
76- Coconut - 28%
Pomace Olive Oil -22%
New Crisco - 33%
Sweet Almond - 17%

Super fat at 7%

hardness: 35
cleansing: 19
conditioning: 61
bubbly: 19
creamy: 17

I don't know what is in the new Crisco as I haven't tried it. I would lower your coconut to about 20% and add the difference to your olive oil. With the sweet almond at 17%, that will make for a very soft bar. I would take away 5% of your Crisco and recalculate with some shea or mango butter. I take the recipes as a guideline only. Once made, that soap might just surprise you. I normally superfat at 7%.

The "new" Crisco is predominantly hydrogenated palm and soy oils.

I agree with soapbuddy's advice - up the olive, decrease the crisco, add a butter - the latter will help with bar hardness too.

Thanks for all the tips folks! I did down the crisco up the olive and added shea butter - I wanted this recipe to be economical - but I ended up not having enough criso to do a 4 lb batch, so your suggestions went to good use. However, see the post on whats the deal with overheating....because I think it did. Wait and see game.

I recommend mango butter! I've been using it a lot recently and its a really nice choice. The soaps are nice and moisturizing, and the butter is an almost playdough texture so its super easy to work with!
