Every color I use always ends up pastel. I would like to be able to get really bright colors like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brambleberry/7150721339/

I made a soap recently with activated charcoal, and the Brambleberry neon pigments (fizzy lemonade and tangerine wow). I can't recall the exact amount I used but I did check the website and used it at the recommended amount. I think I added 1 tsp into 1/3 cup of oil or glycerine to make a slurry, then added 1/4 ppo to the soap.

Here's how it came out:

It might not be what you intended, but it's very pretty nonetheless!

What kind of oils are you using? It might just be the flash, but the soap looks very white. I'm not sure why those colors are muted. I've used BB's neons, and mine turned out nice and bright.

The soap is pretty light colored. It's made with olive, coconut, palm, shea and castor (in that order).

Silly question but - how much colouring are you adding? Are they pastel before you pour? Or only after?

Are you adding any titanium dioxide?

I agree, very pretty soap. I just used the neons and had a similar experience, but it also was a soap that wanted to gel right before my eyes in the mixing bowl..... so I figured it was the oils. I am going to try again as my coloring is mixed in glycerin and sitting in the fridge.

My 8 colour swirl soap is made with the neons, mixed with glycerin, and it was gelled too!

Heather, I did not mean to say that the gelling changed the colors, just that it moved so fast I am not sure if the colors blended as they should have. To give it a second try will give me some answers. Who knows maybe there are some oils that do not play well with the neons???? will need to experiment, YEH!!!!

Ohhh experiments!!!! Yippeee!!! I mix my colours with glycerin in plastic cups, then mix my batter to emulsified (light trace at most), and pour it into the cups. I mix with a spoon then I SB it until its just mixed and the colour is vibrant. I wouldn't try this with an FO or EO that I didn't know (or hadn't asked about on here)!

Hesty--there is TD in the "base" soap but not in the parts I colored for the swirls.

I want to make some more anyway so this will be fun for experimenting. This time though I want to use blues and greens. What about Lab Colors? Can you get really bright colors with them? At what concentration? I have some but rarely use them because of the bleeding. Maybe if I make a small batch they'll get used before they bleed...?
