Teach Soap

I need to soap Leather FO from BB today (Hi Susie!!!) and would like to color it a tan or light brown. Any suggestions???
I don't have an actual brown colorant on hand, but thought about cocoa powder. Would that work? Or can you think of another on-hand ingredient that might make tan/brown easily?

I use cocoa powder all the time for a brown colorant. It works great. Start with a small amount and add more if needed. The color you see is the color you get - it doesn't change. I've also added some yellow oxide to it to get a rust color.

I agree. I tried cinnamon - very early in my soapmaking journey. That did not work out as well as cocoa. I hope you like the leather, or maybe the DH will. I love blending things with this.

Susie, have you tried BB's Smoky Patchouli? It's wonderful! I can't wait to do some blends with it. I like it much better than straight Patchouli.

You might try a blending a little musk f.o. or some Bulgarian lavender with the leather f.o.

I agree cocoa powder works great! I usually add powder colorants to a small amount of my oils and then mix in at trace.

For another option for brown colorants, i just tried black walnut hull last night and loved the way it came out! a nice medium brown with a bit speckle.

If you mix green & red colorant you will get brown.

Nut brown ale makes a nice brown soap. Then it would be "ale and leather" soap. Very guy!

Leather with pink sugar. "sweet leather" (used a M&P swirl for the pink sugar)

leather with midnight pomagranite- know as leather and lace

leather with ginger ale (prev know as ginger fish).- this one was spiced leather

Leather with grass stain - "gilded leather"

My next one will be leather and peppermint

Yes, with this being my first time using this scent I wasn't planning on trying anything fancy. I was just going for a solid tan/light brown color to see how things went.
