Teach Soap

I'm getting ready to place an order for bulk oils, but am a bit nervous! I'm pretty sure I'll use all of the supplies, but I'm concerned about the feasibility of using 50 pounds of coconut oil, 50 pounds of palm oil, 35 pounds of olive oil. Is it really cumbersome to use that volume of a product? I'm thinking of the physical part of it......I'd need to melt down the palm and divide it into smaller containers, correct? How do you melt down 50 pounds of palm oil??? Would the coconut need to be melted also (although with it being warm now, I could just let the heat in my house do that naturally!).
I like the savings of bulk (obviously!) but don't want to create too big of a hassle for myself.
What has been your experience with purchasing these ingredients in bulk?

I buy 50 lb. pails on a regular basis. I scoop out what's needed. I can't help you with palm as I don't use it.

You don't need to melt down the coconut oil...I just keep a smaller pail handy and fill it up as I need it. As for Palm, you can get homogenized (no-stir) 50lb blocks and use it the same way as coconut - just scoop what you need.
Have fun!! It is so exciting to get your first gigantic bulk oil order in the mail!! My kids were amazed! Oh and you'll be amazed at how fast you can go through a 50 lb pail of coconut oil!

Try Soaper's Choice - I believe they sell a 50 lb cube of homogenized Palm.

WOW 50 lbs!! That's a lot. I don't order that much. I still only order the 7lb bottles from soaperschoice. Although at this time I don't have a place to put several 50 lb pails, maybe once my oldest moves out(still in college).

Planning to turn half of our back garage into a soaping room. Nice cupboards and lots of storage! Plus no pets... so no darned fur!!! Then I'll get the 50lb pails

Its just an idea right now, but since I love soaping so very much I can definitely see it happening. My family loves to see me smiling, and soap does that.... a LOT!

I found that I HATE Coconut 76 because of how easily it melts (I live in the deep south and it gets hot here) so I switched to buying Coconut 92 and I LOVE it but when I ordered from Soaper's Choice, my only option was the 50 pound cube. Well first of all, my husband ended up with a pinched nerve in his neck from loading it into the SUV and then moving it to the house. So I'll have to get more help next time. But I really like it a lot. So much so that I began experimenting with high coconut oil recipes and found that I love them! I got the idea from another soaper on a different forum. My favorite is 70% CO with 30% Mango Butter using 10-15% SF. It's fits the bill for luxury, creaminess and bubbles!

By the way, I purchased one of those 55 gallon buckets from Home Depot and transferred the majority of it to that and the rest fit into a 5 gallon (or maybe it's 10 gallon?) bucket. I found them in the paint section. The seal really well and they have handles so they are easily to move around.

I've never ordered Palm Oil in bulk but if I were, I'd get the homogenized (no stir) kind. Trust me, when you get to the bottom of a bucket of Palm, you won't want to stir it. And if you don't, then you get an excess amount of stearic acid and that will cause big problems.
