I've been reading up on room temperature soaping. From all I gather this is when you use your hot lye water (not cloudy but thoroughly disolved) to your solid oils and let the reaction melt the solid oils. Rather energy efficient.

I am wondering if you can go a different route and if any of you have tried the following;

Mix lye and let it sit overnight, in a protected location. In the morning melt solid oils and butters add soft oils then add the room temperature lye solution to your oils.

Will this make a nice bar of soap?

Try a small batch and see. I find room temp lye cools off my melted oils too much and I get false trace.

Irena, Have you tried it the other way... where the hot lye water is poured into cool, unmelted oils?

I do room temp. I usually do hot lye poured over room temp oils. Otherwise my shea butter doesn't mix in if the lye is too cool. If I'm not adding shea butter, then I'll have both oils & lye cool.
I like to swirl, so doing everything cooler slows down trace.

I like it and love the extra time it gives me and so nice to not have to worry about temps.

That is true... the first time I used bees wax as soon as my oils got below 110 degrees it started to precipate out on me.

No, I rewarmed the oils up a little bit, added the lye. It traced so very quickly, I ended up pouring very quickly into my molds. It was the first batch I was making on my own. At that time I did not know about the recommendation to keep it simple the first several batches... had to learn the hard way!

I did a coconut milk soap recently and the lye/coconut milk slurry was cool. I added it to 98* oils and it went so smoothly. No stick blending after the initial mixing of the two! Nice loaf of soap, but the lime fro faded :( even though I put a touch of lemon eo in it, go figure.
