Teach Soap

Ok so I was all ready to make Castile soap. My lye water was made and the oils are measured (but not heated). While I was waiting for the lye water to cool in walks my family. I thought I was going to have enough time but softball practice was cancelled because of rain. Oh well now I'm getting back to my soap. The lye water is measuring only 70 degrees. Can i still use it or am I starting over? I don't remember reading anywhere that I can heat it back up. I remember reading one source that said she makes her lye water the night before but can't remember how she used it from there. Any help greatly appreciated.

Never heat up your lye. You could end up with a nasty caustic volcano. If need be, put some warm water in the sink and put your lye pitcher in it, to warm it up a little. For castile, it's best to discount your water or make a stronger lye solution, as most castile soap take a long time to trace.

How do I determine how much to discount and at what temp can I mix the lye water and oil??

I have used a lye solution that was a week old and I had no problems. I just made sure that my oils were at 130 F and it worked for me.
