Tea tree oil has a mild antifungal trait, maybe some antibiotic traits, but no antiseptic traits (which isn't a term that even works for soap... it means a de-germing agent that has to stay on the surface for a period of time and usually contains a type of iodine called povidone). I see nothing in the soap that would support those claims at all. Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me! Maybe "moisturizing" and "mild".

Also "helps against the prevention of skin cancer" umm... it gives you skin cancer? LOL I think this person needs grammar and spell checker STAT!

This line from the soap you're describing "Goats milk also contains selenium,helps against prevention of skin cancer. This is why you must by FRESH goats milk soap great for eczema, psoriasis, acne, evening out skin tone" Is an incredibly BIG no-no. All the rest is not allowed either, but to actually say (or I'm assuming what she meant to say) that using that soap will help you from getting a potentially life threatening disease seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Looks like Genny beat me to it. You cannot make any medical claims. As soon as you do, it becomes an OTC (over the counter) drug. I see many people making all kinds of medical claims. Maybe they don't know any better or maybe they just don't care. This cottage industry is quite large and not enough inspectors to come after the little sellers that make these claims. Coolah, can you PM me who it is please?

I didn't think half the stuff they were claiming was allowed. The problem is, this came to my attention from a potential customer of mine wanting to know if "this is the type of soap" I would be making ... When I explained that you can't make those claims about soap, however mine would have similar ingredients, I was of course met with the "well she must put extra stuff in so I will just buy her soap".

My next question is - do I report them? I feel bad dobbing in a fellow soap maker, but they're on facebook with nearly 1000 fans and from what I saw last night, they make these claims about nearly every one of their soaps. It's not just about losing business, but the fact that people are going to be buying her soaps BECAUSE of those claims. Especially with the cancer part - what if someone decides they don't need sunscreen because "my soap has that covered"

I don't know the rules and regs in your country, but it's worth checking into. I wouldn't know where to start though.

Hey Coolah, Im an aussie soaper too.... is this person and aussie also? I wish we could make claims on soap but its a no-no. Helps prevent skin cancer though???????? I can't even imagine people beliveing that statment but crazier things have happened!
