the purple pigment i have now () doesn't seem to be strong enough.. when i pour it in, it just cancels out the yellow of the soap and produces a sickly grey color.
what do you guys use for purple?

That is the same pigment I use. I find that when my oils/FO/EO are quite yellow that mixing red oxide and ultramarine blue oxide to make a purple works a bit better than this ultramarine. If you are doing a single colour batch you could try labcolours too, they are great but they do bleed so they aren't so good for a layered or swirled soap. Purple is one of those more annoying colours it seems!

I use FD&C Blue #1 to achieve purple. BB sells it as one of the Lab Colors.

Cellini blue mica also turns a nice purple in CP soap, but I believe it too bleeds.

Okay, Irena, you piqued my curiousity.

So I trotted over to the TKB website, poked around a bit, and found this:

The second question is, "What are the differences between a Cosmetic Grade and a Non-Cosmetic Grade color additive?"

The third paragraph of the answer to that question specifically addresses soapmakers. Notice particularly the last sentence of that paragraph.

I'd also draw folks' attention to the left of that answer. There is a quote from the FDA website.

As I read it, the "Gentian Flower" can be used in soap, but not in things like eye shadow, facial make-up, lipstick, or nail polish. Or anything else on that list of cosmetics as defined by the FDA.

Now I see why I was confused. To me "personal care products" means soap too. Thank you for the clarification.
